About Us
The Darwen Loyal Angling Club was formed in 1956 when a group of anglers met in the Orange Hall at Darwen Town Centre. The club was named the Darwen Loyal Angling Club. At first, membership was restricted to people residing within the Borough of Darwen, with a maximum of 40 anglers. This remained until 1970 when the rules were changed.
The club gained the lease for Hoddlesden Reservoir and this was originally a trout water. When the anglers had fished out all of the trout for themselves it was decided to stock a batch of mixed coarse fish, and has remained a coarse fishery ever since.
The match record for Hoddlesden Res is 64lb set by Mr Bob Fielding in the 1980,s and still stands to this day.
In 2003 they took on the lease for Jumbles Reservoir at Turton near Bolton. This water is a particular favourite with pike anglers but there is also a good head of roach, bream and perch.
There is no longer a waiting list for membership largely due to the ever increasing number of commercial fisheries, but our waters still attract many anglers in spite of the this competition.
